Fees & Practical Information

Everything you need to know before we begin

Starting counselling often comes with practical questions as well as emotional ones.

This page brings together the information people most often ask before booking their first appointment. If there's anything you can't find here, you're always welcome to get in touch.

Session Fees

Individual counselling sessions are £60 and last 50 minutes.

For trainee counsellors completing their training or personal therapy requirements, sessions are available at a reduced rate of £40.

I also keep a small number of reduced-cost places available for people experiencing financial difficulty, subject to availability.

Your First Conversation

Before beginning counselling, I usually offer a free 30–45 minute introductory meeting.

This gives us the opportunity to get to know one another, talk about what's brought you here, answer any questions you may have, and decide whether working together feels like the right fit.

There is no obligation to continue afterwards.

Where Sessions Take Place

Sessions are available:

  • In person in Manchester

  • Secure online across the UK

Many people choose online counselling because it offers flexibility around work, family life and travel. Others prefer meeting face to face. We can discuss what feels right for you.

How Often Will We Meet?

Most people begin with weekly sessions.

As therapy progresses, some people continue weekly while others choose to move to fortnightly appointments.

We'll review things together as we go.

Payment for Counselling Sessions

Payment for counselling sessions is by bank transfer and is usually made before or on the day of your appointment.

Once we've arranged your first session, I'll send you everything you need, including payment details and any practical information before we meet.

If you require an invoice or receipt, I'm happy to provide one.

Cancellations

Life happens.

If you need to rearrange an appointment, please give as much notice as possible.

Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged in full unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Confidentiality

Everything we discuss in counselling is confidential.

Full details of how your information is stored, your privacy rights and my GDPR policy can be found in my Privacy & Confidentiality Policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know what I want to talk about?

No. Many people arrive simply knowing that something doesn't feel quite right.

How long will I need counselling for?

There isn't a fixed answer. Some people come for a handful of sessions around a particular issue, while others choose longer-term therapy.

Can I book online counselling if I don't live in Manchester?

Yes. I work online with clients throughout the UK.

What if I decide counselling isn't right for me?

That's absolutely okay. The introductory meeting gives us both the opportunity to decide whether working together feels like the right fit.
