Training & Qualifying Resources

A space for trainee and newly qualified counsellors navigating training, placement work, private practice, confidence, identity, and the emotional realities of becoming a therapist.

This section grew from a simple idea: sharing some of the things I wish had been spoken about more openly during training and early practice.

The quieter realities.

The uncertainty.

The self-doubt.

The strange mixture of growth, exhaustion, connection, and questioning that often sits beneath the surface of becoming a counsellor.

Some of what you'll find here is practical. Some is reflective. Some is simply observations gathered through training, placement work, supervision, private practice, conversations, mistakes, and experience.

None of it is written from the position of having all the answers. More from the perspective of someone still learning, still reflecting, and still discovering what it means to develop a professional identity and a sustainable practice.

Whether you are:

• Starting placement

• Approaching qualification

• Building private practice

• Trying to find your voice as a therapist

• Questioning your confidence

• Wondering whether everyone else secretly feels just as uncertain

You are not alone.

Feel free to explore whatever feels useful, reassuring, thought provoking, or relevant to where you currently find yourself in your own journey.

A Final Thought

Training can be rewarding, challenging, confusing, exciting, exhausting, and sometimes all of those things in the same week.

Whilst these resources are intended to be useful, they cannot replace supervision, personal therapy, training support, or professional guidance.

If something you've read here raises questions, sparks reflection, or feels particularly relevant to where you currently find yourself, you are welcome to get in touch.

I am always happy to hear from fellow trainees, newly qualified counsellors, and those considering entering the profession. Where appropriate, I may be able to offer a brief conversation, signpost useful resources, or point you towards additional support.
